In time there will be lots more reviews of songs by Rammstein on MyMP3s.co.uk because they’re just soooo good. For me it all started with Link 2 3 4 which I had on Kerrang Vol.3 and I quickly bought every Rammstein CD that I could find. It is hard to imagine heavier metal music.
The song I want to talk about right now is one of their older tracks, Du Hast off their album Live Aus Berlin. It’s the ninth track on the album and you’d have thought that having made it that far through an album they would start to include weaker material, but it comes after Du Riechst So Gut which is a really popular and excellent Rammstein track, so what do I know about track orders?
Unlike a lot of bands, you experience a different and brilliant dimension of Rammstein when you hear them live. It’s not hard to imagine the sheer excitement in the audience, especially after you have seen some live videos (Volkerball being the most recent and awesome example) and you are aware of the dangerous pyrotechnics they employ, flamethrowers, fireworks, and all that stuff you normally get at concerts, but in a way that makes you think that there is real danger involved (which there was, back in 1996 when they had an accident with a burning stage prop that allegedly fell in to the audience).
And Du Hast is just awesome on Live Aus Berlin. But it’s not the whole song I want to talk about here, it’s the killer riff that comes in after 3 minutes and 2 seconds and runs through to 3 minutes and 30 seconds. It’s just apocalyptic. The firework sound that comes in at 3 minutes and 19 seconds is a bit of a pity, but not enough to ruin the overall heaviness of the riff.
Finally I just want to mention the keyboard melody that appears periodically through the track. It’s a simple line that contrasts with the metal heaviness of the track and it makes the track eminently listenable. Over and over.
